About the Producer
Mountain Harvest was founded by Kenneth Barigye in 2017. Their aim is to reshape the way the world sees and tastes Ugandan coffee through a commitment to long-term economic and environmental sustainability for the producers they work with.
When deciding to work with Mountain Harvest, we at LCM wanted to find a specific community to champion, and of the community lots we cupped, lots from the Sipi community stood out on our table. We tasted clean and clear notes of black tea, cream and citrus.
As one of the ten community zones Mountain Harvest work with, Sipi is found on the Northern slope of Mt Elgon, and features over 60% women farmers. They have women-led VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) that is a hub of training in financial literacy, model farming, animal husbandry and beekeeping, and they inspired Mountain Harvest's microfinance program (started in 2022).
