About the Producer

Processed at the Refisa Washing Station in Nensebo Woreda, this coffee captures the essence of a community of 588 farmers from the villages of Refisa, Roricho, Bulga, and Riripa. Nensebo, a relatively new coffee-growing region in Ethiopia’s West Arsi Zone, lies near the Bale Mountains at 2070 MASL, offering ideal conditions for cultivating truly distinctive coffee from the fertile lands of Roricho, Bulga, and Solena.

Until recently, West Arsi coffees were grouped under the Sidama classification, but they’ve now gained individual recognition for their unique qualities. Nensebo Woreda, located 400 kilometres south of Addis Ababa, is home to smallholder farmers who manage around 5,000 hectares of coffee. With farm sizes averaging two hectares, these producers rely on traditional methods, cultivating heirloom and wild varieties native to the area.

This particular lot is produced by farmers from Refisa, Roricho, Bulga, and Riripa, and processed at the Refisa Washing Station, overseen by Negusse Debela for SNAP Specialty Coffee. Negusse, who also manages two stations in Worka Chelbesa, works closely with farmers growing varietals, developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center. The cherries are handpicked, fermented for 48-60 hours, washed, and then dried on 200 raised beds for 7-10 days.
