Vides 58 - La Danta

Throughout Guatemala, LCM have a number of producing partners who continue to provide quality coffee to our loyal Australia, United Kingdom and New Zealand coffee communities.

One of our key contributors is Vides58, a series of family owned farms. Vides58 have a rich history in the coffee world, and are a repeated feature through our origin stories and offer list. We love what Vides embodies, producing quality coffee across multiple farms, and engaging in community initiatives to help develop the Huehuetenango region. Their efforts in nurturing future generations of innovation and production in Huehuetenango's coffee producers is an important role they undertake with passion.

One of the Vides family farms is La Danta which was acquired by Roberto Molina in 1956, where he began to plant Caturra, Bourbon and Catuaí varietals. It's located in La Libertad, is one of our favourite producing regions - Huehuetenango. In 2012 after his death, his wife Yolanda Garrido de Molina worked the farm until 2016, after which his nephews now oversee the production of the farm with washed, natural and honey coffees.

Whilst Guatemala provides a fantastic variety of coffee, we love the lots coming out of Huehue, and keep finding ourselves drawn back to the Vides family lots, for their rigorous attention to quality.

At La Danta, coffee is grown in the shade of inga trees, with a temperature range of 15°C - 24°C. The average age of the trees producing these specialty lots is 20 years, and with careful harvesting and specific process methods, results in a fruity coffee profile. It's always a personal favourite of ours to experience at our cupping tables.
